In all fairness they kept the $9.99 price for 12 years.

As well as increasing the price of a single Premium subscription, the cost of Duo will increase from $12.99 to $14.99, Family will increase from $15.99 to $16.99, and Student will increase from $4.99 to $5.99.

Also if they raising the price.. they should raise the price per stream and pay artists.
Music streaming is like YouTube. It's a means of promotion for other avenues of actually making money. Only the most loyal of fans will still buy albums like the old days. Spotify and services like it are the last bastion before piracy. If the cost isn't kept low enough piracy will be the result.

When I was a kid I spent $40 a month easily buying albums. No way paying $10.99 a month for all you can eat is enough to actually fairly compensate artist. Napster broke the damn though. People are never going back to the old days.
