Fresno, CA.
Sprint's struggles to remain a major carrier continue. Just a few days after announcing that it is dropping out of a major low-band spectrum auction, the company now says it must cut between $2 billion and $2.5 billion in costs over the next six months. The cuts will need to be aggressive — according to the Wall Street Journal (paywalled), Sprint "had $7.5 billion in operating expenses during the three months ended June 30," even as it cut $1.5 billion over the past year. The only good news for Sprint is that its subscriber base is still slowly growing, though not quickly enough to keep pace with T-Mobile, let alone Verizon or AT&T.

If don't see how they survive without merging with T-Mobile
T-Mobile is showing why advertising matters so much

I had them growing up and couldn't wait to abandon them. I had to use wifi just to make use of the damn thing because the signal was so tarsh but i'm glad I no longer have that issue.

WSJ: Sprint's cutting budgets by $2.5 billion, layoffs inbound
People forget that Sprint is shutting down it's WiMax network in about 34 days, and that network costs money to operate. People are working at Clearwire only which is a subsidiary of Sprint will be out of a job.
Shutting-down the network, remove payroll expenses for employees that worked only on WiMax and reduce cost that come along with maintaining the WiMax network, 2.5 billion dollars is not a big deal.
Sprint is not the company is was in 2013 or even a year ago. In 2013 it was still running three networks, two in 2014 and this year the network consolidation will bring this number down to one.
Coverage withing it's current footprint has increased a lot and speeds are rivaling or outperform T-Mobile or Verizon in some markets already. Focusing its attention on the spectrum they have is not bad either, because there is so much potential that needs to be harvested, that if done right, Sprint may not be for long the ugly duckling on the market.

Yeah I had them to back in the sidekick days. Service was terrible. The prices are okay now so it's kind of you get what you pay for now.

Their network was garbage for so long that I'm surprised they didn't tank sooner.
