Stan Van Gundy has some words for Knicks’ fans -- and they’re not going to like them.

Van Gundy, an NBA analyst for TNT and a former head coach, calls them “frontrunners.”

“The Knicks fans and the Philly fans, they are … they’re front-running fans,“ Van Gundy told Steve Serby of the New York Post. ”They’re in love with their team when things are going well, but they’ll boo their team off the floor when they’re not playing well. That’s not a crowd that’s focused on lifting you up."

The No. 3-seeded Knicks (50-31) end the regular season on Sunday and then will begin a playoff series against the upstart No. 6 Detroit Pistons April 19 or 20.

They will have their hands full against Cade Cunningham and Company -- who won 3 of 4 against New York this season -- and then could face the No. 2 Boston Celtics should they advance to the second round.

“I think it would be very hard-fought and competitive because I think that there’s a lot of pride there,” Van Gundy said of the Celtics. “I think [Jalen] Brunson, [Josh] Hart, [Mikal] Bridges, [OG] Anunoby, those guys are great, great, competitors. We saw it a year ago. But I think in the end, Boston’s just got a little too much. … It could be five [games], it could be seven, but I think the games’ll be competitive. Tom’s gonna have his team ready, they’re gonna be super-prepared and locked in. Brunson, we saw it last year all the way through, you get the game on the line, that guy’s as good to have as anybody in the league."

Even if the Knicks overcome Detroit and Boston, they could face Donovan Mitchell and the No. 1 Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

New York is 0-8 this year against Boston and Cleveland.

“I think that the Cleveland backcourt defensively, even though they’re decent, they’re not at the level of Boston’s guards, particularly on the defensive end of the floor,” Van Gundy said. “Now, they’re better offensively, but I think the Knicks have some matchups there that they can go at. I think that one would go right to the wire. I think as long as the Knicks’ playoff run goes this year, you’re gonna see a lot of competitive basketball. I think it’ll be a lot of fun watching them.”

You can always count on a Van Gundy brother to cape for another coach. Team has been booed like two or three times at most this gear.

If fans aren't booing your team when they're playing like shyt/not to expectations, they just don't give a fukk :manny:

:heh: This is the kind of shyt culture we’ve come to. You really think you just said something

It’s acceptable in certain situations, but if you think you need to boo me any time shyt ain’t goin your way you’re dead to me. Especially when you factor in the dynamic of white fans booing black players.

SVG is 100% right and it perfectly underscores why players have a vigilante mentality. Just collecting a check. If you aint loyal I ain’t loyal either

Might be why they never see the type success or major markets have had in the nba at least.
NY in the nfl too.

Very toxic fanbases, dominated by those wfan cats.

Yankees would probably have the same troubles if they didn’t historically spend so much more than everyone else.

I really think people underestimate toxic fanbases and media in sports

I worded it a bit wrong, when they are not winning they are trash for extended periods of time which is the problem with these fickle fans.
And I was mostly thinking about past decade when the internet hate/fans have been loud, podcasts etc.

I remember how they said we don't need Saquon, GL Philly, what has he really done, bla bla bla. :snoop:

And let's not even talk about the Jets

Knicks won 50 games back to back are the 3 seed and made the playoffs 4 of the last five seasons Yanks went to the World Series last season :gucci: Fans have nothing to do with a teams quality. You know how many teams would kill to even sniff the playoffs

The Knicks been somewhere between ass and mediocre for most of the last 25 seasons. They have one of the worst owners in the league :unimpressed:

They lucky their fans still care. Most cities fans would be apathetic by this point. They been better recently but overall their organization been inept for a long time.
