Mace seemed like he genuinely had him....But then Palpatine was faking with pretending that the sith lightning was weakening him.

So whats the overall concensus on this?

Mace had him on the ropes and was about to deliver that shot. Palps was using all of his life force to defeat Mace, which is why he looked all fukked up. Then that lil bytch Annakin revealed his darkness in the force and distracted Mace. Long enough to allow Sidious to use one last final force lightning blast.
Annakin. They didn't really show it in the movie, but Mace was a BEAST. He was on Yoda level and was the best Jedi swordsman.

Yes Mace did beat Pal before Anakin cheated and saved him. Mace was 2nd Powerful under Yoda. He gave the Emperor that work. But Mace is to blame for his own death. Had him and the Jedi Counsel trust Anakin and believed in him a little more than he would of never went to the Dark Side. All Anakin said was "Let me go with you" and Mace was like "NO". Anakin and Mace would of bodied the Emperor and Episode IV, V and IV would of never happen.

Mace and Yoda were right to question Anakin cause he did have emotional issues and they could see that at a young age. But Mace and Yoda were wrong for not believing in Anakin. Only Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan believed in Anakin.

I thought the deformed features from Sidious was his true form?

I thought Sidious was supposed to be more powerful than that. He's was trash in fighting Mace imo. Yoda supposed to be the sh*t but he couldn't take down Dooku in part II. I don't know, all that sh*t was off if you ask me

There was a lot of substance of the storylines that got left out in the movies. That what made them suck. If you want the full story, you gotta read the books.
