As an African I can say that the ''aid'' does a lot more harm than good.
Africa doesn't need aid. The charity sector is just a lucrative hustle (mainly) for cacs and dominated by gangs of Europeans. I remember how the white UN workers were living when I went to Addis Ababa a couple years ago. Fine dining...nice trucks..and for all of that they bang out a report or a proposal for a new project occasionally. Literacy drive for villager women...civil society workshops for countries emerging from conflict etc. They all sound good on paper but hardly ever lead to any tangible results. The whole industry is based on finding poor/disadvantaged people. You can't be too successful

...otherwise your services are no longer needed.
On the ground, hardly anything has changed or is likely to change despite all that money sent.
Nevertheless, props to those of you who have sent money before.. At least your heart's in the right place.
