The Mario Kart Toad vocal sample on Break the Bank and Burnt Tree never gets old. :wow:

I like the chops on How to Surf and Ev really floats on that verse.

It's weird. I feel like Al's still finding his voice on the rap tip. He sounds like an entirely different person between these 2 songs. I like when he raps in his more natural voice like on How to Surf.

I'm hoping they drop a follow up to their first album because it's one of the more underrated indie releases of the 2010's. Lot of dope features too by Roc Marci, Styles P, Blu, Fashawn, and some others. It slowed down a little at the end but the first 3/4ths of it were fire. On the production tip every joint with the exception of 1 or 2 tracks had very heavy drums so it was a breath of fresh air during the peak of Al's drumless beat phase.

Edit: @savoutch and @NVious

Edit 2: Here's the video for Burnt Tree

Edit 3: Another verse that Ev killed last week that he also produced

Damn got me in here hyped they had actually dropped a proper EP, this is just two songs.

I'm gonna eat regardless though, been bumping "Burnt Tree" a lot since it dropped.

Hopefully this is just an appetizer and they've got an album coming soon. Feels like "Lay Some Treats On Us" was forever ago.

No doubt. I was hoping it might be a little longer too but whatever. I like both these joints more than Lay Some Treats On Us. That one never hit me for some reason.

I do think they have a full project coming up. I believe Ev said it might drop before the time of his next solo album (which I think is well along its way). I know he's been a workhorse since his lady passed last year (RIP) and I think right now he just wants to just crank out as much work as possible.

I think we've been kinda spoiled in hip-hop by some really long albums and/or had artists not understand the definition of EPs. I'm pretty sure the technical definition of an EP is more than 1 track but less than 5 tracks, and can't be longer than 25 minutes.

But a lot of hip-hop releases (especially this decade) have been billed as EPs when really they;re just short albums. For example I'm pretty sure all of those Kanye produced albums last summer (Daytona, Kids See Ghosts, etc) were called EPs by some people (including maybe even myself, I don't remember) but they were all 7 songs and definitely too long to be considered EPs.

People just kind of incorrectly call all short albums EPs. I've even heard Illmatic called an EP.

Yeah man that shyt was really dope. Monch's guest verse on there is one of the best features I've heard from him in years.

I've always liked Brother Ali but never been a huge fan either, however this is one of my favorite projects I've heard from him. He really leans into Ev's grittier production and the album definitely has more of an edge and a bite to it than some of Ali's previous work.

yea.. i always assumed EP's were the same(around 4/5 songs).. as for the Kanye produced joints, i just thought they were more of an LP(if that makes any sense)..

im gonna run that Brother Ali through later tonight.. i liked what i heard so far.. still havent listened to Yacht Rock 2 yet.. even got that joint on my phone.. :snoop:

Yeah I know what an EP is, but 2 songs and 2 instrumentals is the equivalent of what a CD single used to be.

Also that Ev and Ali is fire, it's great to see him doing more albums with other artists lately. I played the Defari joint a lot. It'd be dope to see him do one for Rakaa.
