This came out years ago, but it's airing on ESPN right now.

I can't believe the hate he would receive if Twitter and Facebook were big back in 2003. Cub fans with their disgusting behavior, and those Chicago newspapers were beyond pathetic posting his address, job, etc.

One of the most despicable situations I've seen in sports.:scust:.

Didn't the Cubs sent him a world series ring after they won the WS?

Yes, but that was almost 15 years after those scumbag fans and media pretty much ruined his life.

I give him a lot of credit for remaining low for all of these years. The amount of vitriol he received was unreal.

Ok I'm not a baseball guy can someone tell me what did he do???:heh:

Long story short, the Cubs had not won a World Series in almost 100 years at the time of game six in 2003 for the NLCS (Semi-finals). The Cubs for baseball are one of the most iconic franchises. Similar to Steelers (without the same success) in terms of fan bases.

The Cubs led 3-2 in the series going into game six at home. They were UP 3-0 in the 8th inning with one out. There was a foul ball that Steve Bartman somewhat reached for. Other fans reached as well. The Cubs choked that game away and lost game seven.

Cubs fans and the media pretty much made him a hermit. People saying he should put a 12 gauge in his mouth and pull the trigger. People threatening his family and just using him as a ridiculous scapegoat. It's hard to put into words how awful those fans AND the media were to him.

Here is the play.
