I sometimes wonder what percentage of the youth (21 and under) knows the words to Dear Mama.

and "Teen Has No Idea Who DMX Is" as the thread title would probably bring more eyes to this thread OP

True, Ask a kid his age back in 1998 if they know who earth wind and fire is. probably have the same outcome.

but the difference is this is actually the same genre of music. I listened to Jay-z and Nas growing up, but i still knew who Kurtis Blow was. even though it was before my time. because on occasion we actually talked about our genre of music and subjects like who did what first or whatever sometimes come up.
At some point you'd expect them to go down a rabbit hole of hiphop music. What are they talking about when they have music convos?

Young basketball fans might like Lebron more than MJ, but they would still be called a casual if they couldn't identify Kareem or Magic or somebody

Mans immediately knew the lyrics for the song about hunting Black men like animals

:wow:

but on second thought the first song was also about killing Black men like animals

This generation knowledge of past music is the poorest it’s ever been and you have to blame the people of my generation and before.

These ADHD ass kids ain't taking the time to delve into hiphop history like that. I don't think they care for authenticity and originality just whatever sounds good to them in the moment.
