But I'm just going to address the argument here because its dumb. For starters, sure every song tells some kind of story, whether its constructing a character or suggesting a series of scenarios. If anything that makes storytelling skill (using vivid details, economical and compelling characterization, etc.) MORE central to the question of who's a good rapper. If every song tells a story, then storytelling skill is the MOST important skill for a rapper to have.
Yes, we like the rappers we like because they are able to suggest an appealing setting, or story, or persona in their rhymes, regardless of whether they are explicitly "telling a story." That said, actually telling a vivid story, like an actual narrative in a track, is ALSO an important skill, and has made for numerous classic tracks. If you want to DQ Slick Rick, Nas, Ghostface, G Rap, Scarface, or whoever because to you that skill just doesn't count, cool, thats you.
However it makes you look like a moron to suggest there's no difference.

Cam'ron my favorite rapper but he never really did the story telling thing that much. He could do it. But he just didn't much.
Some rappers are good/great at, some m aren't.
I won't hold a rapper back for not storytelling or being good at it. Even though some of my favorite rappers were great at it.
