Struggling BlackBerry agrees to be sold for $4.7 billion

Struggling phone maker BlackBerry said on Monday it has agreed in principal to be acquired by Fairfax Financial, a Canadian insurance company, for $9 per share, in a deal that would total $4.7 billion.

Shares of BlackBerry were halted prior to the announcement, and the company said the stock would resume trading at 2:00pm EST. Prior to the announcement shares in the troubled smartphone maker company were down more than 5 percent for the day.

Last week, BlackBerry said it was laying off 40 percent of its workforce and expected to post a second-quarter loss of almost $1 billion.

Fairfax Financial, sometimes called the Berkshire Hathaway of Canada, is a holding company whose primary business is in insurance. It is led by Prem Watsa, a chemical engineer by training who has run the firm since the mid-1980s.

The press-shy Watsa has long been a supporter of BlackBerry, and his name has been linked with a potential buyout for months.

i had a galaxy s2 before i sincerely hated that phone. The way my bff s3 lagged i was like no way im fukking with Samsung again.

bb os is just so butter smooth man and i communicate a lot . Whether it be on forums , texting , fb groups , twitter , or bbm.

I dont know what im going to do .

I know people talk shyt with out even ever trying bb10 but there has never been a person i showed my phone and said it was never .

My phone has shytted on a note 2 and iphone 5 in terms of browser speed .(specs mean nothing if the phone doesnt perform accordingly )

I have every app i need just side load takes 2 seconds and i got what i want.

This shyt just sucks if they go under i know how my web os brehs feel
