MAN FACING MORE MURDER CHARGES AFTER BEING ACCUSED OF KILLING BERKS COUNTY FAMILY
Jose Luis Rodriguez, 61, was originally only charged in the murder 33-year-old Junior Cabrera-ColonREADING, Pa. (WPVI) -- A man from Berks County has confessed to killing a woman, her 1-year-old son, and her husband in a series of violent acts that District Attorney John Adams described as among the most horrific crimes he has ever prosecuted.
Investigators say 61-year-old Jose Rodriguezadmitted to killing 31-year-old Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, her son Jeydon, and her husband, Junior Cabrera-Colon, over the course of two days earlier this month.
According to Adams, Rodriguez had a personal relationship with Peguero-Mancebo, though the nature of that relationship remains unclear. The two previously worked together at a warehouse, and Rodriguez had rented an apartment for her. Adams says Rodriguez told detectives he was enraged because he believed Peguero-Mancebo was taking his money.
"The defendant indicated to detectives that he was infuriated because he said that Geraldina was taking his money and he admitted that he shot Geraldina in the back of the head," Adams said.
The shooting occurred in Ontelaunee Township while Peguero-Mancebo was holding her son. Adams says Rodriguez then took the toddler to a nearby shallow pond, threw him into the water, and walked away.
"The defendant confirmed that Jeydon was alive when he threw him face down into the muddy water," Adams said.
The next day, Rodriguez met with Cabrera-Colon in Reading, shot him in the back of the head, and dumped his body in a nearby park, according to investigators
Peguero-Mancebo and her son were reported missing and later found dead on Sept. 19 and 20 near East Huller Lane in Ontelaunee Township. Their bodies were discovered about 150 yards apart, one week after the killings took place.
Rodriguez told investigators he picked up Peguero-Mancebo and her son in a car on Friday, Sept. 12, with the intent to kill her because she refused to leave her husband. An autopsy revealed the child died from freshwater drowning, with mud found in his lungs.
Rodriguez remains in custody and is facing charges including abuse of a corpse, and three counts of first-degree murder.
