Suge Knight has just been charged with murder in the death of his friend, and sources say a videotape will be a key piece of evidence.
The L.A. County D.A. just filed the charges in connection with the death of Terry Carter ... who was killed Thursday after Suge ran him over in Compton.
Suge ran over an adversary -- Cle "Bone" Sloan -- and Carter was accidentally struck and killed.
In addition to murder, Suge was charged with attempted premeditated murder, hit and run resulting in death, and hit and run resulting in injury -- all felonies.
As we previously reported, deputies obtained a video of the incident. Law enforcement sources say the video captures "a portion" of what went down, but authorities tell us it significantly strengthens the case against Suge.
If convicted, Suge faces life.

ORIGINAL STORY:
Suge Knight got into a fight on the set of a film project in Compton, and ran over a man and we're told the victim is dead.
Multiple witnesses tell us some kind of shoot -- possibly for a movie or documentary -- was going down with Game, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre when Suge pulled up in his car.
We're told a fight broke out between Suge and 2 crew members. Suge got back into his car, took the wheel and threw the vehicle in reverse ... and ran over a bystander.
It's unclear at this point if the victim was connected to the film project, but people on scene say he may have been killed.
Sources connected with Suge tell TMZ ... the 2 men who fought Suge were the instigators. Our sources say Suge was scared because he's in frail health -- in addition to being shot 6 times last summer, he recently almost died from a blood clot.
Sources tell TMZ ... the victim is Terry Carter who we're told is a friend of Suge's.
We're told there was a passenger in Suge's car, who will be a critical witness in the hit and run.

Dr. Dre is calling BS on Suge Knight for suggesting the good Doc asked Suge to come to the set to make peace with him.
Sources connected with Dre tell us ... he scoffed when he was told Suge is claiming Terry Carter -- the man he struck and killed -- was bringing Suge to the set because Dre wanted to end their beef.
TMZ broke the story ... less than an hour before the hit and run, Suge went to another set location but was thrown out by Dre's security. Sources connected with Suge say he got a call from Carter who said he had just spoken with Dre and the Beats mogul said he wanted Suge to return so he could make peace.
Our Dre sources say it never happened, and note it's pretty convenient the only other person who has first-hand knowledge is dead because Suge killed him.
As for why Dre and his people didn't want Suge around ... we're told it's because they view Suge as having a big fat target on his back. They say the shooting last Summer where Suge was hit 6 times is proof enough ... he has enemies, and Dre didn't want him and his people in the line of fire.

"Family of man killed in hit-and-run allegedly by Suge Knight says they 'did not work in business together'
Meredith Carter, who considered victim Terry Carter a second father, spoke out Friday after the founder of Death Row records was charged with killing Carter by running him over with a two-ton truck. Carter's cousin said they 'were aware of each other' but did not have any formal business relationships."
"To the man who considered Terry Carter a second father, Knight is “the most evil person in the world.”
“Terry had nothing to do with Suge Knight whatsoever," he said, standing in front of the victim’s Los Angeles home. “Terry was a victim.”
"Ridley-Thomas said Carter and Knight “knew each other very casually.”
“They did not work in business together,” he said. “They were aware of each other and were sometimes in the same location but had not had any formal business relationships."
“I can't even count the number of children who he fostered and helped go to college,” he said.
Standing in front of their Los Angeles home, Carter’s daughters said they wanted justice for their dad.
“He was a great, caring, loving, loyal man,” said 28-year-old Crystal Carter, as she broke down in tears. “He is in me. My father is so in me.”
Suge Knight was lured into a trip to the Compton set that turned fatal, and the mission was to broker a peace accord between Suge and longtime rival Dr. Dre ... this according to sources connected to Suge.
Shortly before the collision, Suge had gone to another location where the commercial for "Straight Outta Compton" was being shot and got into a physical push and shove with Dr. Dre's security. Some off-duty officers saw the altercation and ordered Suge to leave.
Our Suge sources say a short time later Terry Carter called Suge and said he had contacted Dre and was told to bring Suge by the next location where they could work out their problems. Suge says he took Carter up on the offer, believing it would be a peaceful meeting, but when he arrived he got jumped before he even got out of his truck.
As we first reported ... it all ended with Suge running over Terry's head, killing him. Suge is now in a downtown L.A. jail after being arrested for murder. His bail is set at $2 million.
As you probably know, Dre and Suge owned Death Row Records but their partnership blew apart and Dre left the business and went to Interscope.
Suge's people say they can easily prove Terry called Suge but obviously there's only one person now who can recount the conversation.

4:15 AM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... after interviewing Suge Knight, cops have formally arrested him on murder charges, and his bail has been set at $2 million.
We're told one of the critical factors is that witnesses claim Suge threw his car in reverse once, and then a second time ... and they believe he intended to hit one of the people with whom he was fighting.
3:00 AM PT -- Suge has turned himself in for questioning and is at the station now being interviewed. One of Suge's problems ... witnesses tell us one of the 3 men who were struck by Suge's vehicle was in the altercation with him before Suge ran him over ... which could be evidence it was intentional.
9:30 PM PT --Cops found Suge's truck abandoned in a parking lot in the Westwood section of L.A.
8:15 PM PT -- Cops just had a press conference ... and say there were 2 fights, the second resulting in the fatality. They said the first fight went down on the movie set -- and the second at a nearby burger joint. Cops said witnesses claim the car backed up and ran over the victim twice before fleeing.
6:00 PM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell TMZ ... the Sheriff's Dept. has issued a bulletin to all Southern California law enforcement saying "be on the lookout" for Suge Knight ... that he is wanted for questioning for 187 -- murder. They also say he should be considered armed and dangerous.
