Jodeci was untouchable on the first three albums.

And Devante was a genius, back then. I think the drugs, ego and recklessness f*cked dude up. His run behind the boards should've definitely been years longer than what it was. He was next level talented.

All facts

It’s a damn shame they didn’t have a longer run into the 2000’s

R&B could’ve really used DeVante’s talent to help write and produce a lot more great songs for other artists well into the 2000’s

I still want to hear the original 4th Jodeci album from the early 2000’s that they were working on.

I know DeVante sitting on a lot of unreleased music.

Devante was an incredible producer, but his greatest gift as a producer was developing artist more so than just the musical aspect. Not saying he wasn't great musically, because he is great musically, its moreso that his knack for finding and developing artists is underrated. That whole element is missed and underrated from a production standpoint. People don't discuss it enough. Without the Rico Wades (Organized Noize), there would be no Dungeon Family.

Devante had his own Dungeon Family in Da Bassment, but his ego destroyed it. The crew splintered off and you had Timbaland, Magoo, Ginuwine, Missy, Playa, and later Tweet finding success under Timbaland. Stevie J. does his own thing as Hitmen for Puff. Darryl Pearson goes on to produce Mya's debut and other acts and links back up with Tim.

He had his own modern day Motown

Truth.

There was a collection of unreleased demos that was online years ago, that had old references and songs on it. I downloaded it back then. I need to find that and dust those off. Devante had a lot of heat in the vault.

We were crazy about Jodeci around the way, back in the day. I don’t think any of us thought that run was gonna end in '95. It's crazy to realize it only went a few years. We've never seen anything like it since.

It’s wild to me after all these years dude still pretty much doesn’t do any interviews

It’s like post 95’, he just disappears

Even when you go back and look at some Jodeci performances from 95’/96’, his appearances stated to become sporadic

It’s always the man behind the music who doesn’t do any talking, lol

I be waiting to hear how he came up with lyrics to songs, melodies and his method to his production work from the 90’s but only second hand talk from others is all you’ll find

I know just what you talking bout

I had that stuff too; great collection

I was just having this conversation with my sister. So many of the artists that we like and admire had such short runs in music but the quality of the music stands the test of time

It’s like their held captive to that particular era

I wish they would’ve come back in the early 00’s like they had initially planned. If they could’ve had their shyt together

Mad true.

What's wild is, when you're a kid and hearing these albums in real time, it doesn't feel like the run is short. But then you look back and realize it like WTF? LOL!!

I wasn't into K-Ci and Jojo's sh*t when they went out on their own. Their music was messing the edge that Jodeci had perfected. I also wanted more of that Devante production. So I was waiting for that comeback too, for the whole group. But by the time they finally did, it, the magic was gone. 20 years is just way too long to try to get it back together.

Yup

I just said the same thing to my sister. When I was younger, that time felt like an eternity lol

Same here, K-Ci and Jojo were then going for a different sound and it was a shift to from the Jodeci sound we had all become accustomed to with Jodeci

I remember reading MTV news back in the 2000’s about their 4th, something like “Jodeci On The Comeback Trail” lol

Yeah they waited far too long

I know we will never get a doc from them cause they seem content with never sitting down and talking about the past and besides it’s been 30 plus year and they still ain’t done it lol

I just DeVante would at least do some interviews going into detail about how he worked in the 90’s and the making of those 3 albums.

A doc would be crazy! I would definitely watch that, lol.

I read something online about the making of the second album, but I think that was with the engineer of the album.

Right? I know they got stories for days lol

Yeah I think that article was an interview with their former engineer Prince Charles Alexander

I know one thing

DeVante’s money must be good, because other than occasionally touring, he ain’t never been hurting to get the band back together or trying to write for others unless he’s been ghostwriting for the last 30 years

I didn’t like that last album, but the single Every Moment was classic jodeci.
