DeKalb County police have named a suspect in the year-old murder case of a rapper who was killed driving his brand new Maybach.

Christopher Dyer has been charged with murder in connection the shooting death of James D. Lewiel, whose stage name was O.G. Double D.

Lewiel, 42, was driving the weeks-old luxury car westbound on I-20 on April 11, 2013, when someone pulled alongside him and fired nine times through the vehicle’s double-pane windows, police said.

In an article last year, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution talked with family members who said Lewiel visited South DeKalb Mall twice on the day he was killed and they believe he was followed from the mall.

Dyer, 25, is currently in jail at the Marion Correctional Institution in Ocala, Fla., on 2012 burglary and grand theft auto charges from Volusia County, Fla., according to jail records. He has been there since March for the February charges.

Dyer is also wanted in Palm Beach County, Fla., on unknown charges, according to jail records.

Jail records show that he also served three years of a four-year sentence in prison in Broward County, Fla., for a pair of 2007 armed robbery convictions.

DeKalb police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said Dyer is awaiting extradition from Florida to DeKalb.
