Actually they are Spain's team be default. Barcelona technically is part of Spain, but they claim to be from Catalonia and have been fighting to become their own country for years.
I went to the Real Madrid vs Barcelona came 3 years ago while on vacation. Nothing like 99K fans chanting and showing their disdain for the country they live in. Even without speaking any Catalan you get chills when you see a scene like this.
