By signing up for a ‘legal abortion’ within 18 weeks of pregnancy, dads would have no obligation to provide for the infant, the Swedish Liberal Party’s youth wing believes.
They claim it would give equality for the sexes, and give women the knowledge about whether a man is willing to commit to parenthood.
The idea’s pretty out there.
But bearing in mind Stockholm’s young Liberals have also suggested legalising sibling incest for over-15s and allowing ‘consensual’ necrophilia if the deceased had written post-life sex requests into a will, it’s probably not the furthest they’ve gone to push debate.
The male abortion idea was met with a swell of criticism – who would have seen that coming?
A senior member of the mother party, Carl B. Hamilton, branded the youngsters ‘idiots’ and questioned if ‘sex with hippos’ would be next on the agenda.
Marcus Nilsen, chairman of the LUF Väst youth group, said: ‘This motion was actually put forward at our annual meeting by a group of girls.’
And he told The Local: ‘It’s something we thought was worthy of debate but the reactions have been overwhelmingly conservative, with a lot of people viewing it as an attack on the nuclear family. We have other issues we’re prioritizing such as housing and employment.’
