That's a basic diversion tactic. It's literally how Malcolm X was killed (one or more people cause a distraction on one side, assassins move into place on other side). Obviously sneaking a weapon into an event like that is probably impossible but regardless...they need real security at this point.
Biden gave up his SS protection when he left office btw. VPs have that option.
