Syria conflict: 'Huge explosion' rocks Damascus airport

A large explosion has hit an area near Damascus international airport, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says.

"The blast was huge and could be heard in Damascus," said Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the UK-based monitoring group.

The airport lies about 25 km (15 miles) south-east of Syria's capital.

The blast was reportedly followed by a large fire. There is no word on casualties. The cause is unclear.

Syria has been embroiled in a civil war since 2011.

The conflict has killed more than 320,000 people and, after more than six years, no political solution to the fighting is in sight.

While Damascus has remained relatively insulated from the violence, fighting between the military and rebels has erupted near the capital in recent months.

Last month, there were reports that Syrian government forces were bombarding eastern areas of Damascus after rebel fighters launched a surprise offensive.

:usure: making excuses so they can bomb people.

They have the legal right to bomb anything they want in Syria tbh. They're technically in an official war with them for the past 30 years.

Anyway, no persons reported dead and the target was a Hezbollah weapons cache. I'm ok with it. Its sticking to the script where Israel only bombs terrorist targets that pose threats to it (aka only Hezbollah targets)

Wrong. Bombing sovereign nations is an act of war. If that was the case...anyone can bomb Israel. Stop.

I'm not arguing about bombing sovereign nations being an act of war.

I'm stating Israel and Syria are legally and technically at war right now and have been since the Six Day War.

That means Israel bombing Syria is not a "new" act of war. Its a continuation of the ongoing conflict.

There has never been peace or a formal (official) end to that war between Israel and Syria.
