Never thought this album would spawn a whole sound. "Bu, bu, but modern trap music doesn't sound like anything like this album". Modern rap sounds nothing like what it sounded like 50 years ago. Doesn't change anything. Without T.I.'s Trap Muzik there would be no reference and we wouldn't be calling it trap. This album paved the way for Gucci and Jeezy. It was also a pivotal album in ATL's dominance. It was a part of the snowball effect that started with Lil' Jon's "Get Low" and from there it was a whole summer of crunk, then T.I.'s Trap Muzik, then Kast's Speakerboxxx/Love Below, and then you had ATL pretty much dominating music considering Usher's monster 2004, Ciara debuting that same year, T.I. got bigger, Luda was still huge. Just crazy.

I'm this far from being a star.. and just THAT close to quitting
I never should've came CLOSE to missing
But I want to be a musician, pimping
Not a politician, listen
feel my position, it's a rough transition
Plus, I'm WAY too deep in the game to be tryna to change
For fortune and fame and glamour, I could be in the slammer
Or six feet up under Atlanta
It's a blessing to breathe
I walk the streets with seven felonies, I'm blessed to be free
Long as somebody up in heaven keep blessing a G
T.I.P.'ll still be blessing CD's
So haters you can see these
Cause I'm back now with something to prove
Everything to gain, pimping, nothing to lose
I oughta start smacking nikkas when it's nothing to do
They too big, shoot them in the leg and even the odds
Cause you ain't hard
Unless you ran with Cap and C-Rod
Trapped with K.T. and robbed with J.R
fukked hoes with D.P
Broke bread with J.G
Switched labels like K.P
Who the fukk did all that, pimp? (Me)
even though I'd rather go back to slanging drugs and shyt
It's a gang of nikkas and bytches really love this shyt
I can't quit

- T.I - I Can't Quit

The term was used way before "Trap Muzik" was even conceived. You could back as far as Kilo Ali's "Cocaine: America Has a Problem" and pinpoint that as the official "birth" of trap music since he was the first that mentioned it on wax.

That's taking nothing away from Tip cause this mf still bangs. Probably my second favorite album from him.

It wasn't the term. Before T.I., trap was just a reference for where hustlers were made bread from whatever it was they were selling. It wasn't something associated with music outside of that. T.I. gave us way more insight and it actually became its own sub genre.
