So im talking with my neighbor(who is a white cop) about police reform today and he made some good arguments... figured I'd share an interesting one.

2-3 people are killed by police everyday, every year... most of whom are white, but its not even obvious that that's a bad number considering there are 300+ million. What is the expectation? what is an acceptable number? 0-1 a day? why? based on what?
Where does the idea that all the crime in a giant ass country should result in people never being killed come from?
...he also says not resisting arrest in would likely cut the number of deaths in half, but its easier to blame the officer than it is the person creating the hostile and/or unsafe situation.

Thoughts?:jbhmm:

Edit: He voted for Trump last election and says he is staying home this election.

Really Bruh....:beli: how hard is it to fukking throw corrupt and trigger happy cops in jail and make sure they don't have qualified immunity...No protection from the police unions and no DA not prosecuting them and no bullshyt juries either...

We know what it is now...:beli:

They have been seen to be capturing white vicious criminals on camaera armed and hostile alive meanwhile black man more often not unarmed blasted away for doing nothing... :comeon: seems like they don't understand if you as a cop can't follow the law yourself you shouldn't be a cop... enough is enough...

:pachaha:So the expectation is zero deaths?
Yes.

Every murder by police should be deeply investigated.
Even zero point something per 10 million people is not good enough.

Looking from the outside, it's crazy how the violence is normalized in US.

In UK cops don't even have guns.

It's possible.
And the right to life is the most basic one, without it there is no democracy.
Why is this such a strange concept for you?

The 300 million population argument works only on people that don't know math and scaling for population.

Besides, your policing is on the state level, so often smaller than a lot of European countries.

The list by country, rate per 10 million people:

My thought are, you neighbour sounds like an a$$hole, who is drunk on power and forgot his oath is to serve and not to oppress.

I hope he doesn't stop you for a traffic violation.

Fair enough... but i dont think comparing the U.S. where firearm's are prevalent and legal, side by side to a country where they are not, and asking why we cant have similar numbers is fair or meaningful in any relevant way.

I dont follow, any number of deaths = oppression?:dwillhuh:
Any officer who takes a life in the line of duty has broken his oath?:dwillhuh:

edit: he's actually really chill, but ive never ran into the officer version of him. I only see the family side of him.
