Bad example you used. Tanking doesn't necessarily imply just getting the #1 pick. Golden State tanked one year just to draft 7th.

If you really wanted an example, the only teams in the lotto era to win a title with the guy they drafted at #1 were San Antonio and Cleveland and they needed TWO of them.

Also, not every player pans out, but at the top is usually where they reside, and they're definitely in the lottery, and tanking doesn't guarantee you shyt, but if you draft well high, you're likely to be good again unless you ain't shyt as a franchise.

yes they did. If they didn't pick 7th or better in 2012 they woulda lost the pick to Utah.

Here's what trying to get higher picks gets you as an organization: hope. I can't sell hope through the 18th pick in a draft unless that player pans out, and if he does, then you should have no problem building a team.

Of this year's all stars, 9 of them weren't lotto picks (2 of them were pick 15th), but there are many others that didn't go this year that were picked higher and seemingly every team other than Memphis maybe got at least 2 lotto picks on their squad.
