Eli was supposed to be that way. He was a scared man who fell back on religion because he couldn’t do anything else. He came back to Daniel begging for money, and was rightfully bludgeoned by a bowling pin.

Tarantino has had some bad acting as well in his movies. Death Proof for example.

Weird complaint. The performance mirrored a very specific type of evangelical/cultish person. If you've been around white Christians you def ran into someone who sounds like that.

Dano also plays the other brother in the film. The one who tells Plainview about the land and gets paid...and he was quite reserved in that role in comparison.
