Tarantulas can be found in at least 15 U.S. states, including
Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Arkansas. These states, primarily in the American West, Southwest, and parts of the Midwest, have native tarantula populations that prefer warmer, arid climates, though they are also found in South Florida.

- Western/Southwestern States:
Tarantulas thrive in the dry, semi-arid conditions of states like California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, and Texas.
- Central and Midwestern States:
Aphonopelma hentzi (the Texas brown, also known as the Oklahoma brown, Missouri tarantula, and Arkansas chocolate tarantula) can be found in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana.
- Northwestern States:
Oregon and Washington also have tarantula populations.
- Other States:
Florida has a native Mexican red rump tarantulaand an invasive species, and they are also found in parts of Nebraska
