Asking his audience for funding to get it started isn't scamming in and of itself.
I remember him saying that he did not hire the right programmers and they did a bad job of coding the site and when looking at what it would cost to fix the mistakes and start over would not have been worth it.

What does this conference do to help black people at fukking all, besides line Tariq's pockets? This is literally how pyramid schemes operate. This is how prosperity churches operate.
Miss me with comparisons to engineering conferences where you can actually improve your career, find better employment, network, etc. Compared to a conference where speaks tell you jack shyt of worth. I keep saying it in these Tariq/youtube personality threads. Stop watching this bullshyt and go read a fukking book. Go read a fukking publication. Go read a fukking article. You are embarrassing yourselves. These charlatons literally do nothing but complain, make terrible arguments, and ask you for money. That's it.
Conferences are often scams that waste time, money, and don't teach people ANYTHING. Revolt just had a conference in LA about the music industry. Big names attended, paid money to go to all types of speeches and Q&As. I guarantee you 90% of the people in that arena left with no knowledge they couldn't have gotten for free online or in a library, didn't make any meaningful industry contacts, and a year from now will likely be in the same position they are in today. The 10% who benefited will be the chicks who found new sugar daddies and wack local rappers who found local producers to steal beats from. That shyt is not a good way to get "in" MOST industries unless you have an actual real job or resume.

I was raised by a black business owner and helped run it. I have always supported black businesses. I buy most of my suits at black owned boutique shops in Detroit (which btw are being pushed out the city by gentrification).
I volunteer at my local Big Brother Big Sister program and am often the only black man there. I attend profession sessions at local high schools where I go and explain my job, how I got into my position, etc. Kids aren't as interested in Michigan as they were when I did this in Cali and worked in the music industry, but it's still a good way to show kids they can DO something. A lot of kids have no idea what many professions are...and showing them that it's normal ass shyt that they can accomplish is very important.
