Didn't appreciate it when it was on the air, and like many people I thought it became redundant after a while. However, the forum not airing yearly created the void that these Youtube channels exploit.

The reason it stopped the 1st place was because people said tavis was only doing this to push his books and people were upset the groups at these unions at the time were critical of Obama (this was the pre-woke era back then you couldnt say shyt bad about obama).Plus we lack trust and unity for this to work now with everyone paranoid that most people talking black power and conciousness now are agents,frauds,hustlers etc

There were a lot of criticisms but the main reason it went off the air is because the sponsors pulled out. The Golden rule, the people with the gold get to make the rules.

I remember Tavis was upset that Michelle attended his event and Barack didn't. A lot of folks was deep in the Obama Kool-Aid at that time (including me). Negroes didn't want to hear nothing bad about Obama at that time so people wasn't siding with Tavis.

Then later when Cornell West and Tavis were critical of Obama negroes called them haters (I was with Cornell and Tavis at this time). 10 plus years later......lol

People who can't think for themselves will always lean in whatever direction the wind blows them.

I kept respect for Smiley and Dr. West, even though their problems with Obama stemmed directly from being snubbed. Watch the end of the second vid in OP, as the sister details the accomplishments of the Obama administration in meeting agenda goals outlined by Smiley years earlier (he looks like he saw a ghost)

I deliberately post those two vids for younger people who never saw a SOBU program. The emotional and the cerebral.

There were stories suggesting that one of Cornell or Tavis was upset because he didn't get an invite to the inauguration and they were doing the poverty tour as personal payback. Melissa Hariss Perry and Eric Dyson were racking them over coals on air and in print. I think Dyson wrote like a 5000 word essay on Cornell West questioning his scholarship. Tavis also got caught up in metoo movement as well

Wait, somebody tried to continue it after Tavis? On a national level? I saw some vids from recent years with similiar titles,but I thought it was some regional stuff. Tavis was able to draw the national figures.

No, I want to say that it was on the air for a good amount of time before Obama ran for office.
Tavis retained all the rights to it , so if he has a web presence now, I'm sure it's all available through him.

It wasn't a story, it was fact.
Obama declined to appear in the SOBU the year of the election (offering to send Michelle)....Hillary attended.
Dr. West was not given an invitation to the Inauguration, nor granted access to the White House and Obama's inner circle.

Overnight, both men flipped on Obama. Footage and content of their comments about Obama before and after these snubs is evidence.
