Devonte Fields won't press charges
FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU defensive end Devonte Fields has declined to press charges after telling Fort Worth police that he was attacked at his home, was robbed and had his life threatened at gunpoint early Tuesday.

According to the police report obtained by TCU 360, Fields was walking toward his off-campus house at 5:50 a.m. when he was jumped by three suspects, including one who used a semi-automatic pistol to strike Fields on top of his head.

The 2012 AP Big 12 defensive player of the year was then pushed into his house, where he was beaten and robbed, before the 6-foot-4, 240-pound Fields was taken back outside and had his life threatened, according to the report.

Fields, 20, told police he then grabbed the arm of one of the suspects and five shots were fired, including one that went into a home across the street, where the bullet was later collected by police, TCU 360 reported.

TCU coach Gary Patterson says Fields was the victim but that he's OK and attended classes and workouts Tuesday, hours after the incident.

After initially consenting, Fields later told officers that he didn't want them to search his home and that he didn't want to press any charges.

Fields told police that a cellphone, an Xbox system and tennis shoes were among the items stolen from his home.

TCU personnel examined Fields, who declined further medical attention. School officials sent an email off-campus crime alert after the incident.

Fields, who will be a junior next season, was suspended for the first two games of the 2013 season for a violation of team rules and wound up playing just one game because of a foot injury. He had 43 tackles and 10 sacks as a freshman in 2012.
