I've had enough, I just went into my office for the first time since March yesterday, and after my 3 train commute I probably did 30 minutes of work. This morning, I get a rejection email from a company I had two interviews for paying 55k and 20 minutes from my house. The recruiter tells me to call him to discuss and he says the interview is excellent but they decided to go with someone more "experienced." Tbh I didn't even really want the job but the salary and distance was enticing to me.

I'm 26, making 45k in NYC. I live in the hood, and have been for most of my life. My family tried to do the best they could with the knowledge they have. I went to Morehouse and networked the best I could but I didn't know that my major (English) was not a lucrative field until I graduated.

I'm in a comptia and network+ class Monday-Thursday online from 6pm-9pm but it bores the living shi* out of me just like my job. I love music and I genuinely get excited DJ'ing and playing mixes and could definitely see myself doing it as a career. I have about 10k saved and I was going to use some of it for a car but can anyone advise how to invest into stocks, bonds etc so I can monazite myself through stocks and cyber money but also start this DJ Career. I'm just sick of the kissing ass and feminization in the work place for a salary that allows me to come home and see the same people in front my building when I left , still there betting a day's work on dice.

Also, does anyone know the rudimentary parts of DJ'ing? how to obtain music not from copyright, apps, etc?

Try call center work. I've heard of people who work in call centers and then start their own call centers from home and get contracts from companies to handle telemarketing or customer callls.

If you're an english major the best path to being your own boss is probably writing. Write a book and hope you win the publishing lottery I guess?

Learn how to sell and market. I recommend diving head first into direct marketing and direct selling but make sure you want this life.

You will lose

  • Friends
  • Women
  • Family
  • Sanity

And nobody will congratulate you when you finally make it infact they'll say you were lucky after your all sacrifice.

Except to fail a gazillion times too.

You're an english major?
  • Teach english to foreigners (some countries pay good for that, you have to be in their country though)
  • Write a book
  • You wanna DJ? Upload some mixes to Soundcloud or Youtube.
  • Learn about Infinite Banking and Velocity Banking. With that said, get your finances in order.
  • You need $100ks of stocks for it to make money for you, assuming dividends. Daytrading is not for the weak.
  • Your company has a 401k? And they're matching? Start putting money into that.
  • Stick with that Network+ cert, it will open doors to other places.

One route is running an ecom business with Shopify. I've been teaching some brothers how to become profitable aside from their 9-5s. PM me for the program and training if interested.

How much a month can you afford to put into stocks?

=====

There's always online TESOL companies that you can apply for with your English degree (the good ones only accept clients w/ a bachelors). You're not going to be rich, but its extra money from the comfort of your home. You just have to be up and ready to teach an hour of class time to Chinese kids at 6AM (6PM Beijing time).
