Team USA Basketball: The Worst?

This year's team is better defensive team though. Butler, PG, Green, Klay, and Jordan can really stop the opposing team best players. 2004 team only had Duncan and Marion.

Another thing, most of the players on the 2004 team were playing for losing teams that didn't make the playoffs except for Duncan and Jefferson. None of them played in the conference finals that year which means they were all well-rested by the time the olympics started, but they also haven't played in meaningful competitive games in a long time. They didn't know how to close games.

this year's team has 4 players who have just played in the FINALS, and 7 players played in the conference finals. They've been at the big stage. this team is more experienced, versatile and disciplined.

This is not a better defensive team from.what they've shown, they're just good on paper. If this team played that 2004 Argentina team they would take an L. Their perimeter defense - which should be their strength - appears to not know how to get around a screen or make the right switch. Individually they're mostly great defenders but building team defense is a clear issue.

Nah, the 04 team loses to this one, they straight up couldn't shoot and Bron/Wade/Melo were going into their second seasons.


The spacing on that team was a mess, this current team can get hot and start murdering you from three.

Yeah that 2004 team couldn't shoot for shyt. They would pass up open threes and jumpers. Teams just collapsed on Duncan.

Shawn Marion no shooting ass was a starter also. His game just doesn't match up well with Fiba because he can't shoot or create his own shot.

Crazy thing is Wade, melo and lebron were the only ones on the team that could figure out the zone that the teams were playing.

Every time they played they would score against the zone. But Larry Brown doesn't like rookies.

We will begin from 92 on forth, since before then no NBA stars were allowed to play.

Iverson, Lebron and Duncan lead team USA to a 19 point defeat to start off the tournament, its worst loss in Olympic history (yes including all 17 times we've participated) They would go on to lose two more times, more than doubling their total Losses in Olympic basketball history (5). The team went on to win the Bronze medal, marking the first time in olympics history where a team with NBA stars (and HOF players) won a bronze. (Only the second time we've ever won bronze in Olympic history, the last time was in 1988, which prompted officials to start using NBA players, aka 1992's the Dream Team)

LBJ, Wade, and Melo were young pups back then. LBJ was coming off a season averaging 21ppg on 41% shooting lol


Duncan and Iverson were the only stars on that team. The 2016 are just missing LBJ and Curry
