True. But do you think those statements make it more likely that they will commit AND honor said commitment.
Yes. If they don’t commit, it’s easier. You’d rather have someone tell you they can’t make an event rather than RSVP and then just not show up. It’s better to know what your options are. If the plan is to just let everyone decide when they feel like going, don’t have an organization to make these decisions.

If they don't commit then you are fukked. No one cares about this tournament. People care about the Olympics. You can't trot these B- at best cats out there in the Olympics. If all the better players decide not to go that is one thing. But if you turn people away trying to be tough, that's just stupid.

If they don’t commit then they don’t commit. You can’t control that. Look at Canada for example. They didn’t care either, but now they risk not making it to Tokyo at all. The US did enough to qualify, but then Kobe is right. Get used to losing these tournaments because most everyone else is gonna do their best.

If the better players wanna play, fine. Just don’t commit and then be wishy-washy about it.
