I was big on Elon prior to 2018. Dude is a fraud, who skated by on being white and in the right place at the right time. I don't even call people on that often, but dude is white privilege personified.

He's not very smart. Like slightly above average, rich childhood, and in the right place at the right time. Being autistic worked in his favor because he "looked the part". I legit know people who went to jail smarter than him.

i think is smart. but he is brash. and sociopathic of the hard-wired details-are-beneath-me type.

his sense of entitlement and penchant for doing things in his own-special-way get in the way of him building a more sustainable business footing with the talent that he actually does have.

elon didn't even know what git was when he took over twitter. he is not a programmer...

:martin:

"he is not a scripting language / web programmer" you mean?

he was probably using svn / rcs / perforce / clear case / booger-repo / etc instead.

git is not the only option. and git rode up on the back of free software, continuous integration, outsourcing collaboration and web apps.

serious and larger blue chips did not switch to git early.

deustche bank still uses svn.

longer-term ibm houses will have been established using clear-case.

i wonder how much assembly code, micro-code or bespoke OS/controller code there is on github?

at least not a 21st century one.

:what:

git released in 2005.

ten years later in 2015 svn still had 1/3 of the market.

if elon didn't know what source control was at all then ok, flame him.

otherwise it is no big deal.
