Tell me why my idea is stupid-NBA should get rid of the draft and have to recruit incoming rookies

Teams should have to recruit like they do in college. I think it'd help all those teams that are at the back of the lottery and 6-8 seeds get to the next level quicker. They could get that high impact rookie. It'd stop tanking or the need to tank cause everyone gets an equal shot at a player.
You're probably thinking "every player would just go to the Cavs or the Warriors or Lakers" and I don't think so cause why would a top rookie go to sit on the bench behind a team that's solidified their roster? Dudes wanna play.
Imagine if the Pelicans could recruit whoever the top PG or C in the class is to pair with AD? They wouldn't have to gut their team with trades, wouldn't have to tank, and wouldn't be stuck in 12-13 pick purgatory. Or if the Bucks could get one more piece to make them a true contender.
Front offices would have to be more competent in order to get guys there. Each team would still get 2 slots for the team. The slot would still have the same salary associated with it.
I'm really trying to think of downside. :jbhmm:

First of all, really bad teams in some way or another have to recruit incoming rookies because players and agents try to duck some teams. Doing what you want gives the agent as much power as anyone in any organization. In the NBA where vanity plays more into decisions then anything, that's a dangerous proposition.

Secondly you are operating on a very flimsy premise that players are down to play wherever. Wrong! You mean to tell me that if I'm the top prospect and I grew up a Lakers fan that I'm not gonna do what I have to do I can spend the first 5-9 years of my life on the Lakers regardless of who's on the team?
Certain teams really can't sell you on much as it is. Imagine being a rebuilding team in an undesirable location. What can you offer a prospect besides opportunity he can now apparently get anywhere? Meanwhile Pat Riley can break out his rings and the Bang Bus van and recruiting doesn't look like a tall order.

Cuz you'd have 4-5 top teams pumping and dumping all the top talent and the rest of the league would be dry.

:dahell:

Everybody would go to 3-5 teams

:dahell:

I don't think so. No top player bout to go to the warriors to ride the pine or to Cleveland to go sit behind vets. Cats ain't gonna be on that Kentucky shyt in the league cause they gotta get that second contract.
