Follow me to the truth
Teams should have to recruit like they do in college. I think it'd help all those teams that are at the back of the lottery and 6-8 seeds get to the next level quicker. They could get that high impact rookie. It'd stop tanking or the need to tank cause everyone gets an equal shot at a player.
You're probably thinking "every player would just go to the Cavs or the Warriors or Lakers" and I don't think so cause why would a top rookie go to sit on the bench behind a team that's solidified their roster? Dudes wanna play.
Imagine if the Pelicans could recruit whoever the top PG or C in the class is to pair with AD? They wouldn't have to gut their team with trades, wouldn't have to tank, and wouldn't be stuck in 12-13 pick purgatory. Or if the Bucks could get one more piece to make them a true contender.
Front offices would have to be more competent in order to get guys there. Each team would still get 2 slots for the team. The slot would still have the same salary associated with it.
I'm really trying to think of downside.
