Dude came back too quickly. He would have just got shot or shot at running away. He did the right thing in my opinion. Secure his girl, stand behind the car and prepare for confrontation.

Why would anyone make that argument tho? Cause the dude who went to his car had the same opportunity... and then chose to come back.
Even if he did flee, we're assuming the vehicle he shot over was his, and he'd have to unlock,circle around...get in, have her get in, start the car, back out..and at that point he's not going to be able to accurately shoot back, and is much more at risk of getting him and his woman shot.
He didn't know what car the dude was running to, nor if he was really gonna pull something...and when it was clear that he had a gun, and was coming back...he made the decision to fire.
He actually practiced more restraint and responsibility than the police would.
