A Tennessee woman who is accused of drowning her 7-month-old baby told police that “Jesus came down” and took the child to heaven.

According to an arrest warrant, witnesses informed Clarksville police on Friday that 24-year-old Stefany Paige Johnson was “yelling and screaming, as well as being naked in the road,” The Tennessean reported.

When police responded at around 3:40 a.m., 7-month-old Astrid Johnson was found on the couch. Authorities believe that Johnson made no attempt to provide medical care for the child.



Johnson told police that she was bathing the child, and “Jesus came down and took Astrid to heaven,” the charging document said.

Police concluded that negligence resulted in the child’s death, and charged Johnson with criminal homicide. She was being held without bond until a Monday arraignment.

Johnson’s husband is deployed with the U.S. military.

Data from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene shows that, among non-hispanic black women, there were 31,328 “induced terminations” to 24,758 live births, according to a CNS News report.

In total, there were almost 74,000 abortions in New York in 2012, meaning that 42.4 percent of all abortions were of black children. Hispanic children accounted for 31 percent of those aborted in the city at a total of nearly 23,000.

Altogether, black and Hispanic abortions were 73 percent of the total of 73,815 abortions in New York in 2012.

For years, New York has had the highest abortion rate of any city in the nation.
