I'm in Arlington. I've been without power for at least 3 hours, but im sure it's been out longer and I just didn't notice because I was sleep.

Keep bags of road salt at home and in your car.
Buy a military grade sleeping bag and take it with you in your car if/when you travel.
Tank top propane heaters are cheap and good for your garage (ventilated) or Buddy heaters with CO detectors and safety shut offs.
Buy the 3000 watt Predator generator from Harbor Freight. It is worth the 900 dollars and you can use it for all kinds of stuff not just emergencies. It's small and quiet and you can run a lot of devices.

It's the ppl who move here from Cali and other places that come here thinking they don't need jackets or ice scrapers, etc bc "its Texas". Those are the ppl who are surprised.
