Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Monday ordered the civil arrest of Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to block a vote on a Republican-backed congressional redistricting plan, escalating a standoff that has stalled the legislative session.

The absence of the Democratic lawmakers broke quorum, which meant the House did not have enough members present to hold a debate on a bill to redraw the state's congressional districts to add five seats favoring Republicans. That prompted a Republican-backed motion for their civil arrests.

"In response to this dereliction of duty," House Speaker Dustin Burrows said Monday, "in pursuant to the rules of the House, I am prepared to recognize a motion to place a call on the House and any other motions necessary to compel the return of absent members. Should such a motion prevail, I will immediately sign the warrants for the civil arrests of the members who have said they will not be here."

Update 8/8:

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) asked the Texas Supreme Court Friday to remove 13 Democrats from office, days after Gov. Greg Abbott (R) filed a similar petition.

Not just “the president”. Every single pedo protector in those states is complicit in this. Every last one of them is a traitor to the constitution and democracy.

I think Democrats are slowly getting the picture that they can’t keep playing politics as usual or they will get absolutely steamrolled. Republicans truly don’t give a fukk.
There is a downside though: when absolutely everyone is not playing by rules, you can't just expect the side you thought was good to remain good to win.
The DNC suppresses progressives so while it would be high-time for some against-the-rules getback, that's when we have officially hit the point where you have to hope the aftermath makes sense.

Just to state, I am not saying they shouldn't do this, but it pretty much ensures that even if other people wanted to get things back in order, it's fully gone. When the rules are gone, we are unironically hitting the point where regular people have to be ready to take action. Protests were good, but they don't force anything unless there is a general strike. General strikes are hard. Suddenly getting to the point where people are 2nd ammendmenting is much easier so it's rough times ahead.

Nobody trusts Republicans to do the right thing. They’ll propose all sorts of shyt and vote right along with the rest of their party everytime, or vote against them when they know it doesn’t matter.

The last time a Republican broke rank when it mattered was when John fukking McCain voted no to save the ACA
