An Arlington High School football player lost his scholarship after he was arrested Wednesday, according to authorities.
School officials found an unloaded gun and narcotics in 19-year-old Raymond Sheard's backpack, according to Arlington Police Department spokeswoman Tiara Richard. The serial number had been removed from the gun.
Sheard was charged with having a gun at school, tampering with an identification number, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, Richard said. His bail was set at $7,750.
Sheard, a running back on the school's football team, was set to attend Boise State University on a football scholarship in the fall. Authorities said the university revoked his scholarship after the arrest.
