The 103rd Rose Bowl matches the Big 12 Champion and #2 ranked Oklahoma Sooners vs. the SEC Champion and #3 ranked Georgia Bulldogs on January 1, 2018 in Pasadena :wow:

This is the first ever matchup between these two storied programs with the winner moving on to the championship game in Atlanta on January 8th

Oklahoma is led by Heisman frontrunner QB Baker Mayfield and a dynamic offense while the Bulldogs have one of the nation's top defenses and a 3 headed rushing attack led by senior RBs Nick Chubb & Sony Michel.

Oklahoma opens as a -3 point favorite while the favorites to win the CFP National Championship are Alabama (35%) followed by Georgia (24%), Clemson (23%) and Oklahoma (18%), according to FPI.

5 Things to know about Oklahoma

1. Heisman: Mayfield is the heavy favorite to win the Heisman trophy. He’s thrown for 4,340 yards with 46 total touchdowns. Mayfield has played in the playoff before, losing to Clemson 37-17 in 2015.

2. Their flaw: The Sooners were giving up 5.69 yards per play (73rd in nation) before trouncing TCU 41-17 on Saturday. They allowed over 30 points per game in conference play, which includes the outlier of holding Kansas to three points.

3. Run defense: Oklahoma surrenders 144 rushing yards per game. Opponents have scored 19 times on the ground against them. Nick Chubb and Sony Michel should have a big workload for the Bulldogs.

4. The offensive line: The talk mostly centers on weapons, but Oklahoma is winning games behind a dominant offensive line. Tackles Orlando Brown and Bobby Evans will hear their names called in the first round of the NFL draft at some point. The Sooners give Mayfield plenty of time to move around and find his targets.

5. Coaching: The Sooners finished 12-1 under first-year coach Lincoln Riley, who took the reins after Bob Stoops’ abrupt resignation. Riley, a former Texas Tech quarterback, hasn’t been a head coach prior to this season.

Georgia and Oklahoma are set to face off in the Rose Bowl for the first round of the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1.

Here are some players UGA fans will want to watch out for on Oklahoma:

Quarterback Baker Mayfield: The Heisman frontrunner, Mayfield will want to bounce back after being destroyed by Clemson in the 2015 College Football Playoffs. And he’s in solid position to do so.

Mayfield has completed 71 percent of his passes for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns this season. He’s added 310 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Despite 369 pass attempts, he only threw five interceptions.

Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart told ESPN he anticipates plenty of sleepless nights while preparing for Mayfield.

Tackles Orlando Brown and Bobby Evans:One of the top tackle duos in the country, Brown and Evans will be tasked with containing Lorenzo Carter and Georgia’s edge rush. Evans is listed at 6-foot-4, 312 pounds and Browns comes in at a massive 6-8, 345 pounds. Both could be day one NFL draft picks.

Running back Rodney Anderson: The previously injury plagued Anderson didn’t secure a starting role until October, but he’s excelled since in a backfield with three players who average roughly 50 yards a game.

Anderson has 1,047 yards from scrimmage since becoming the main back, most in the FBS. That included a 151-yard rushing, 139-yard receiving, four-touchdown showing against TCU Nov. 11. He was the first player since 1996 to have such an explosive rushing and receiving game.

Linebacker Ogbonnia Okoronkwo: All isn’t lost on the Oklahoma defense. The senior was named Big 12 co-defensive player of the year after collecting eight sacks and 17 tackles for loss. He lines up all over the field and, despite the SEC’s glut of pass rushers, will be one of Georgia’s toughest challenges.
