Lamar needs to stop holding the ball so long and dropping back so far. That sack was on him.
That's not a good excuse though. Against the Chiefs they are daring him to make tight window throws. Even if its not completed just target someone so you don't take unnecessary loss of yards. That's going to be important because he's clearly not running like he use to after that Oliver hit.Lamar been playing injured since the hit by Ed Oliver in the 2nd half vs Bills
Those wondering why he's holding onto the ball longer...he said it himself a few weeks in a press conference
Guys aren't open, and he doesn't want to take an intentional grounding penalty.
First game back, likely playing at 75%
Fans ignore the mental aspect of players returning from injury.
It might take at least 3-5 games for Lamar to feel confident running/cutting....feeling like himself
I feel like I'm saying this for the thousandth time....hamstring injuries are no joke
Even when you feel like you can cut/sprint...you never know til you have to know
I’m curious….Schematically how were the Chiefs daring him to make tight window throws? That's not a good excuse though. Against the Chiefs they are daring him to make tight window throws. Even if its not completed just target someone so you don't take unnecessary loss of yards. That's going to be important because he's clearly not running like he use to after that Oliver hit.
I agree with everything you said.
Madubuike career being over is the rumor.
+ it had a mental effect on the morale of the team (of course there was bad coaching but seeing ya brotha and arguably best player on defense considering an early retirement due to injury is wild)
Want to see Trenton Simpson continue to line up as an edge more
How has Simpson been this season? I remember the Lions spending a lot of time looking at him during the draft.
Limited opportunities and snaps due to Buchanan.
However, other guys including Ro, Marlon, Starks, Awuzie, and Jaire also looked lost.
I’m still high on him, and confident he’ll come good for the Ravens.
I won’t be shocked if he’s part of a trade package.
I seen your posts…I know it’s not your comment, but I respect your football mind.
….I need bright football minds to explain the pre-2023 racial trope of opposing defensive coordinators daring Lamar to make tight window throws. I don’t see it on the broadcast coverage, and All-22. But if nikkas is seeing this, how is it schemed?
A…explain it to me like I’m new to football
B…explain it to me like I’m advanced with football like a coach
Please
Hard to separate that from the racial undertones a lot of broadcasters use when discussing Lamar but the most generous reading is that Lamar is a lot worse against man than zone. IIRC during last year's playoffs, teams were in man nearly 50% against the Ravens. The problem with the argument is that Lamar isn't bad against man, he's simply ok/solid. Whereas he's elite against zone. And if you play man and your defense isn't disciplined he's gonna rush for 60+ yards on you.
A big reason I think it's racially motivated is because you know who is god awful against man but elite against zone? Baker Mayfield. Yet you will never hear a broadcast say he can't read a defense or can't make "tight window" throws. Lamar can make any throw. Man coverage and crushing the pocket are keys to beat him but you can say that a lot of QBs.
The data (DVOA, PFF, Advanced Analytics, basic analytics)says otherwise. Yes he’s better in zone than man. But he’s elite in both.
I definitely appreciate you breaking it down. Logically it makes zero sense because the same can be said for most QBs.
I remember last year Lamar had a really ugly game against the Steelers, who were doing a lot of wild shyt in terms of flipping their coverages to man and using spies. And then the Bills played a lot of man in the playoff game. Couple ugly games against man but overall he's not bad against it like certain other (white) QBs.
Everything gets harder in the playoffs but boiling it down to "tight windows" or reading defenses is weird racial shyt. I don't remember which playoff loss it was, but there was one where Lamar clearly could have dominated by rushing but just refused to do it for some reason. If defenders are gonna turn their back on him in coverage and nobody is open there's really only one option: kill them with your legs. When Josh Allen does it, it's a genius move. When Lamar does it, cacs want to question if he's seeing the field correctly lol.
