North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
  • MCing (Rapping) – The lyrical, vocal expression. Storytelling, rhyming, and wordplay performed over beats.
  • DJing (Turntablism) – The art of using turntables and mixers to create beats, loops, scratching, and mixing. DJs like Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash, and Afrika Bambaataa pioneered this.
  • Breakdancing (B-Boying/B-Girling) – The dance element, rooted in athletic, improvisational moves, often done during the “breaks” of a record.
  • Graffiti Art – Visual expression of hip hop, using spray paint and murals to tag, design, and mark identity in public spaces.
  • Knowledge (or Consciousness) – The idea that hip hop is more than entertainment; it’s a cultural movement with awareness of community, history, and resistance.

I was thinking about this yesterday. My son asked me on the way home from school yesterday if I knew how to beatbox. Aside from me being shocked that he knew what that even was, can you imagine kids nowadays doing that? Freestyle cyphers are gone, which is the reason we all learned how to beatbox back in the day anyway. The culture of hip-hop that we grew up experiencing is uniquely tied to an era that no longer exists.

I was just talking about cyphers on here recently.

The lack of those today, is really how a lot of rappers get over now. That was how you earned your stripes. If you think about a lot of the "top" rappers today, how many of them could actually hang in a cypher with some real guys? It would be embarrassing. But you're right, those elements, like emceeing and beatboxing, the purity of those elements that really shaped the golden era, a lot of that doesn't exist anymore.

Hard to pass the culture along to our children. As well as maintain social sway ans maturity.
When the gateway teacher.
allows a pedo to have free reign.

Until krs one does the job he asked for. Hiphop culture has no safe gateway.
to make it acceptable for our children.

hip hop started with the DJ, and then the DJ got pushed out. Bboying is not relevant in the mainstream(or underground), Tagging is not as popular as it used to be and it's hard to find MCs now. So exactly what is this artform we used to call "hip hop"?

Again,...
How can we as bboys create a cultural gateway. When the gateway curator of the new school way of thought. Endorsed the culture thief toy.
who destroyed the protection mechanisms of hiphop culture. As well as allowed an ol school way of thought toy sellout pdf file.
in the new school way of thought.

There is no way.
to create a gateway for hiphop culturally
Or drive interest in the pillars. As the culture has been compromised. by culture thieves and complicit gateway enablers of those culture thieves.
