TBH I wasn’t too crazy on this album when it first dropped but I will say that The Essence was the song of the summer in my hood:banderas:

Later on I came to appreciate this album and the classics that came from it, Alchemist really blessed us with this album:blessed:

On another note, The Essence is my top Lox song ever, and also one of the hardest songs period

Lean Back, Champ Is Here/Why?, Tipsy, Game Over, Freak a leak, Goodies, Anything that was on that Usher album and "Dude" by beenie man were the summer anthems on my block that year but I digress.

When I think of Essence I dont think of that Alchemist album...I think of Jadakiss' The Champ Is Here mixtape because thats were we all heard it first with the teaser called "The Strongest shyt On The Shelf." I ran that mixtape into the ground so by the time the Alchemist LP dropped it was like "Oh so thats what the set up was for."(SMH @ the mixtape being better then the anticipated Kiss Of Death album that dropped later that year) I thought that 1st Infintry album was hit and miss. But the hits were high level standouts. Every song posted in this thread so far are the hits.

Yeah the stand outs I associate with other various mixtapes not the Alchemist album.

Wasn't huge on this album when it dropped, but it's aged really well over the years. The features are nearly all legends. Classic Prodigy verses, classic Lox songs, a classic Banks song, shining light on Twin Gambino. Think you could make the argument that this is Al's best piece of work.

Not gonna front, I was disappointed in this album when it dropped. Al was probably on my top 3 at that time and coming off the heat he was dropping with Infamous Mobb, this album didn't do it for me outside a few cuts.

The reworked version of "Different Worlds" though is one of the best songs he's ever done, so I'll give this album that.
