I've done this a few times before. Once here at TheColi and a few times at the :hamster:. Since nikkas put my rep down the big goose egg. I figure I give back to the community and I might see something in return :shaq:

You give me a Year, Make, Model, Type (coupe/sedan etc), Miles....

Example
2009 Infiniti G37, Coupe, 52,000

And I'll give you the price that dealers are paying for it at auction. ACTUAL market value

If you want to be even more specific and give me the region that you live in....I can find out what the car is doing in your region.

You can use this information one of two ways....

1. Having the advantage of knowing what a dealer most likely paid for a used car sitting on the lot.

2. Having the advantage of knowing what a dealer is going to get for your car/trade if they were to send it to the auction. Or even what they would need to pay to be able to put a car like yours on the sales floor.

Nothing beats being able to tell a dealer "I saw a few auction reports and they are doing..."

Only rules are NO MORE than 1 car request per post and I might need 2 or 3 days to get back to you as I don't get to get on TheColi as much as I'd like.

Well, dealers are always going to mark up a used car from a trade-in or from auction. That's how they make money.
There are various factors like the region you are in. More demand for 4-wheel cars (like Subaru's) in mountainous area let dealers price higher, or give you less haggle room compared to regions where 4-wheel drive isn't in bigger demand. There's secondary issues like the time the car is on the lot. If it isn't getting any looks or offers for a long time and they can't move it, then dealers might be willing to go lower. If they just got in a used car, then they won't be as open to going lower. Sometimes yes, but usually no because they are going to try to maximize their profit margin on each car.
Just because you know the price that the dealer paid for a car, or close to it, doesn't mean that they will go lower on an offer. The sales manager, not the salesman, can deny all your offers.

2012 Audi S4 Avant 30K miles

Sorry Breh, no data on the Avant. Plenty on the regular S4. Not sure why. Really weird.

2007 Chevrolet Cobalt 98,000 miles. Thinking about getting this (it would be my first car.)

I'm in the Midwest

Midwest numbers, 90,000-98,000 miles. Average of auctions. If you give me a specific model I can show you the last 10 or so sold, where, when, and for how much.

2 Door
2D Coupe LS - $2,625
2D Coupe LT - $3,450
2D Coupe SS - $3,175
2D Coupe SS Supercharged - $6,475

4 Dour
4D LS - $2,925
4D LT - $3,400
4D LTZ - $2,875
4D SS - $3,175

That should give you a good baseline. One thing that I did notice while looking at the numbers is that the markup on these is considerable at retail. Also you'd probably save a good $500 if you bought this car anywhere but the midwest.

If you're looking for a common vehicle, this isn't a bad strategy, though at that point I would make the argument, that you are better buying privately if you are trying to get a steal, because if a used car hasn't been on the floor plan long the dealer controls whether they wanna move the vehicle at their price before taking your offer. Also too keep in mind used auto-sales of 5 year old cars or so have been the best they have been since 2007. In short, it's a seller's market.

Ya these numbers are more of a barometer of the market (used & trade). They are directly from Manheim.

Every dealer (large and small) sees their floor plan in a different light. Some will want to move cars before making a single payment on it, some will sit on it until they get the right money, and some will own the car outright and will let it stubbornly sit on the lot depreciating.

No one likes dealing with car dealers/salesman. So anything helps.

Not much science about anything I do. My numbers are straight from the biggest car auction holder (don't want their name being indexed by Google). From my auction license that I still have kicking around.

Sure, there are other auction houses out there. But they are one of the biggest and their sample size should be enough to determine the market for a particular vehicle.

Way too many options on the Acadia. I'll throw one of them at you. AWD Denali.
