The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The actors are all accounted for. The lights are on. The film is rolling. The release date is set. Production on Marc Webb's upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is officially underway in New York City and here at Cinema Blend we're incredibly curious about what the movie has in store for us. Reports over the last few months have revealed that characters like Mary Jane Watson (Shailene Woodle), Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), Electro (Jamie Foxx), and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) will be appearing in the superhero sequel, but the plot has remained a mystery. Today the curtains have finally opened.

Columbia Pictures has announced the start of production on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and in the press release they have also delivered the film's official plot synopsis. Read it below:
In The Amazing Spider-Man™ 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Perhaps the most interesting element from this reveal - which, admittedly, is short on concrete details - is the idea that Harry is an "old friend" of Peter's. How does he know Peter in this version of the story? Where has he been? Why did he go there? I'd be willing to bet it all links back to his father, Norman.

Another little tidbit reveled in the press release is that Colm Feore has also signed on. This is actually the second time in the last couple years that he has taken a role in a comic book movie, as he previously played King Laufey in Kenneth Branagh's Thor. There is no mention regarding what role he will be playing in the Spidey sequel.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be in theaters on May 2, 2014.
