I always hear and read about how gangsta rap was made popular by NWA, or that Skooly D or Ice T were the originators..:duck:

But matter of fact..Too $hort has been on that gangsta shyt since 83 when he dropped his debut and even before then he was doing songs here and there..he was selling real gangsta music to real gangstas in the projects..all day..every day..

So tell me why does hip hop hate on the bay..for birthing the best form of rap..gangsta rap

Too $hort was not a gangsta rapper, c'mon breh. The first gangsta rap song was PSK (What Does It Mean?) by Schoolly D.

I should be looking at you like that, Too Short rapped and made tapes for crack dealers early in his career doesn't mean he was a gangsta rapper. As said he was more of a nasty rapper kinda like the guys from 2 Live Crew.

i wouldn't call what Too Short did gangsta rap, i dont think he does either. you could probably find a lot of local rappers doing gangsta type lyrics or making tapes for the local dealers & ballers in every town from NO to Oakland. Ice Cube was writing and performing gangsta lyrics & remaking songs like My Adidas into "nasty versions" in the early to mid 80's, Ice T was making baller/gangster type music in the early to mid 80's but it was on a very local level just like Short did with his tapes.
