Easily The Emancipation of Mimi by Mariah Carey.

For those who don't remember, Mariah Carey had just made one of the worst movies ever called Glitter and released a soundtrack to that movie that was universally panned.
The criticism for Mariah Carey's film and album Glitter was exceptionally harsh, leading to a widely panned film, poor box office performance, slow album sales, and a period where Carey was considered a "national punchline" and "emotionally unstable" by the media, though its legacy has been re-evaluated over time.
Then Mariah linked up with Jermaine Depree and created the best album of her career.

It's a better comeback album than:
Common's Be
LL Cool J's Mama Said Knock You Out
Nas' Stillmatic
Tina Turner's Private Dancer
David Bowies Blackstar

I think the only album that comes close is Dr. Dre's 2001.

Hard to find an artist with a bigger comeback album.

And I don't know if this would qualify, but personally, No Limit Top Dogg by Snoop.

The Doggfather was a significant drop off from Doggystyle and his NL debut seemed like he just wanted to drop an album, but when I 1st heard NL Top Dogg, I was like :wow:

i know u meant Stillmatic for Nas. You would think that the way the booth says nas was down and out they will co-sign it but no, they only use that to create a narrative that Jay saved Nas's carrier but then wont accept it as a come back album (which it was wasnt). The hypocrisy:stopitslime:

The Score. People either forget or not old enough to remember that Salaam Remi saved the Fugeee's career with one remix(Nappy heads) which lead to several Vocab remixes because their album was azz due to the record label not letting them produce their debut. The Score was so great that new Fugee fans don't/didn't know they had an album prior to it.

Also, Mobb Deep - The Infamous. Most people don't even acknowledge Juvenile Hell.

And RZA and GZA coming back with Wu.

If we’re talking strictly HIP HOP then Mama Said Knock You Out is the best comeback album.

Stillmatic isn’t a comeback album. Nastradamus was viewed as disappointing but the man was coming off TWO platinum albums released within the same year. He was only the second rapper at the time to ever achieve that feat.

Mobb deep the infamous
I guess you can count these, but for me you have to have released a good project, fell off, for it to be a 'comeback' album.

Using that stance, LL's previous album sold very well.

Hiphop had changed so much that people were saying that he might have been over , but Walking with a Panther was a hit album in terms of numbers.
