I feel like ending to the first episode was sloppy, maybe I just need to suspend my disbelief. I find it hard that Homelander has a hard time killing the gang when they're all there.
At the end of the episode he kills the fasted dude alive the first time he sees evidence of being crossed, but can't hawk down Starlight, Butcher, and the rest
In episode 2 he gets some help to track down the gang, and the dude he gets finds them that afternoon. TBH it just make Homelander seem incompetent in an area where he shouldn't be that bad.
At the end of the episode he kills the fasted dude alive the first time he sees evidence of being crossed, but can't hawk down Starlight, Butcher, and the rest
