The Buss family have sold Majority ownership (48%) of the Lakers for $4.8 Billion, Franchise valued at $10 Billion. Family still owns 18% stake.

They were routine luxury tax payers tho :yeshrug:

But she made sure she's still running things until she's done. The sale was more for ensuring that Jeanie's siblings have something to give their children and their children. That Highlander language Dr Buss had in his will and trust was wild.

Again....she can say what she wants....

Nobody is paying for a team and letting the PERSON they paid call the shots....Walter will stay hands off if she produces results....which we will have to see....he did not buy a team to let Jeanie and Pelinka(who is Kobe's glorified weed carrier) dikk around

Maybe, but Jeanie is a shrewd businesswoman having learned from her pops. "These are the conditions if we sell" was surely discussed and agred upon. She's not going to be here forever, so once she steps down, he can do what he wants.

"In addition, Jeanie Buss will remain the Lakers' governor and continue to run the team for "at least a number of years," sources with knowledge of the deal told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. It was guaranteed as part of the agreement that Buss would remain in charge for the foreseeable future, and Walter fully endorsed this plan, according to source."

So it sounds like there is some kinda timeline on when she will be stepping down at least.

Sure that is nice PR and I am even sure there is language in the contract that allows her to be involved as a figurehead governor.

But in no fantasy world does a person buy a business and abide by the whims of the previous owner.

And fact of the matter is that VERY few people would give their family the premium they got on this sale......the idea that she would throw away a deal of this magnitude over her "control" is frankly unbelievable to ME

Let her go shop the Lakers on the open market for that price with the stipulation that she call the shots......she would get dead air. The Buss children have no substantive money outside of the Lakers.

She will stick around because her family has relationships in the NBA and the LA community and some affection from the fan base....but for the nuts and bolts of the business.....Walters is going to want to make money and is going to want results

Plus Shelburne is a Jeanie mouthpiece

I almost see no chance of them letting Jeanie actually make basketball decisions. Thats just malpractice, she not footing the bill anymore

I wonder if Mark has Friedman (Dodgers President) take a once over look at the current state of the Lakers. I'd have to imagine he's gonna want an NBA version of Friedman running operations at some point

the "number of years" is where they have the leverage to bush her. How long is that timetable?

We will find out over the next year or so......I would figure he gives her a year , maybe two..possibly the duration of Bron's final contract.

Pelinka just got an extension.....he on the clock too

Walter isnt gonna want to waste the few years of Lebron and Luka

I'm thinking 2 to 3 years as well. 5 tops if we do something.
