The Passage of Time
For Suit and Tie not taking off and it's modest sales.

Justin Timberlake Single Sales Soft: Is it Jay Z or the Six Year Absence? | Showbiz411

What does this say for “20/20″? A couple of things. First of all, “Suit and Tie” is just about ruined by Jay Z’s rap plopped into the middle of the song for no reason. Jay Z is fine if you like him, but Timberlake fans don’t want him popping up on records willy-nilly.

after a flurry of initial interest and sales, “Suit and Tie” has struggled on all charts. It’s dropped to number 9 already on iTunes, and number 13 on amazon.com. It’s only been 10 days.

Of note: the top pop station in the US, Z-100, lists “Suit and Tie” at number 20 of its most popular records this week. And in morning drive, “Suit and Tie” is simply not in the rotation of the last 10 records played.

My question below.

So with it tumbling on Itunes in North America and placing 3rd in Europe behind 1. Will and Brit, 2. 50 Adam and Em 3. Justin and Jay-Z all of which were released on the same day. With the perpetual hate you guys give 50 for his short lived Itunes chart topping song. Will you also give that emotional drivel to Justin and Jay-Z?

The article itself is retarded so let's focus on the last part, your question that made you post this in the first place. Ok you want to know if The Coli is going to be consistent with their criticism of a 1st tier rapper who has a major single on the charts not perform as intended. You feel if Fif gets jokes then Jay should as well based on the same criteria. I understand but there's a few problems:

- one is a 50 Cent record and the other is a Justin Timberlake record. So it's a reach to even make the comparison on that front. That's like saying Motivation is Lil Wayne's record rather than Kelly Rowland's.

- the jokes directed towards Fif aren't as much about the single as it is about the state of his musical career. So let's say for argument's sake that Suit & Tie was Jay's record... then it still wouldn't carry the same connotations because he can afford a few duds. 50 at this stage absolutely can't.

It's doing better than 50's flopped single, one of the biggest flopped records in modern recording industry history...if that's what you're asking...after 10 days it's still in the itunes top 10...after 10 days My Life was like #110 or some sh!t...if anything, it just puts into perspective how massive of a flop My Life really was...#9 after 10 days is considered disappointing...but My Life wasn't even in the top #100 ...:snoop: ....Jay's presence negatively affecting it's performance seems a bit non-sensical, but :manny: ... it was a mediocre, overhyped pretty generic song to me...pretty sure JT's album still has a release date and won't get pushed back for 2 years while they scramble to put out half a dozen songs that all flop trying to catch a buzz like 50 though

Song is just trash. Jay doesnt come into the song till the very end. If it was Jay they could do a typical radio edit and remove his verse from the song for pop radio but no, the song still flops. Timberland doesnt have it anymore and his career is finished. Timberlake was out the game too long and forgot theres no room for washed up cidack R&B singers anymore. Jay z is also old as fossils and is no longer resonating with the youth like that. At least he lasted longer then JT.

A song about putting on your Suit & Tie is flopping??? :ohhh:

When the majority of these kids think dressing up is wearing too tight jeans and extra small t-shirt.

hmm so noone has a problem with them straight throwing jay under the bus and conveniently forgetting that justin timberlake used a host of rappers features on his songs to help get 'credibility' early on :mjpls:

I'm a fan of both artists, but I do think the Jay-Z inclusion feels kind of random and unnecessary. There would have already been enough hype about the track as it was, and it's not as if Jay's appearance is especially memorable. It's another "cool" verse from the guy.

With the news that Timbaland has affiliated himself with Roc Nation (they're not saying to what extent yet, I suspect management or publishing or perhaps both), maybe he was behind the collabo, since he produced the song to begin with.
