Just watched Casablanca for the first time (on Blu-ray, no less!). That's the type of classy and gorgeous looking movie Hollywood couldn't make these days if they tried. I can't say it's my personal favorite or that it would even make my Top 10 of all-time, but it's a great film with great atmosphere, dialogue, characters and set pieces.

Citizen Kane is another one I've never seen before. I suppose I'll give that one a shot next.

What are some of your favorite films from Hollywood's golden age (late 1920s - early 1960s)?

i haven't seen too many movies made before 1980 to be honest.. and i know there's a lot of classics.

i took a film class one year.. i looked at the movie list like :scusthov:

but i had the same opinion of casablanca as you did. not one of my favorites by any means.. but there was just something about it that i enjoyed a lot. classy.. romantic and sentimental without being overly cheesy or overt.

citizen kane.. i did not enjoy nearly as much. maybe because the animaniacs spoiled the ending for me :sadcam:

i also enjoyed rear window and some like it hot. the latter was surprisingly funny even after all these years.
