Will Smith To Star As Crime Boss Nicky Barnes In ‘The Council’ – Deadline

Will Smith will take on the role of New York City crime boss Nicky Barnes in his next Netflix film, The Council. The project will re-team Smith with Concussion helmer Peter Landesman, who wrote the screenplay and will direct The Council. Smith and partner James Lassiter are producing the pic for Westbrook Inc.’s Overbrook Entertainment along with Jackson Pictures’ Matt Jackson and Jason Essex for Anonymous Nobodies.

Not getting my hopes up for this one.

"Concussion" and the JFK film, "Parkland" were not very good films at all, both by Peter Landesman.

Will is not very good with accents. Nicky Barnes had a distinctive, New York City-bred accent.

Has Will shown in 25 years of acting, that he can go from a ruthless, heroin-dealing Harlem crime lord to
a cooperating government witness, willing to put his Council associates away in prison for life over a woman?
