Only way he could have contributed is slapping Dre upside the head and tell him to give Snoop better beats. Snoop held his own, it was Dre that was the letdown with that project.

reminded me of the last wu album, a better tomorrow. rza and (now) dre are so invested in exploring their own interests sonically. which is great. but they're also SO far removed from what people are rocking with today... and i imagine some of that is intentional, because a lot of that sound is inspired by their peak work (daringer, for example). their tastes have evolved in ways that dont lend themselves to the production we want from them anymore; they need someone to anchor their impulses and pull them back towards the middle a bit.

They could've used D.O.C. on that last project.

Whole album had way too much going on. Overproduced, and weird flows. He said they donโ€™t listen to him as much as they used to, and that's clear. The dudes writing for Dre now, have him rapping in these trash cadences and flows, that make him sound wild unnatural. Which is the opposite of how he used to sound. They need to get back to simplifying the formula again. They're trying too hard now. And it shows.

My main issue with Missionary (besides the sterile, bland production) was how obviously ghostwritten it sounded. I know Snoop is no stranger to having "help" but for that album it's like they were trying to turn him into some super lyrical miracle nikka and it sounded forced as fukk.

You hit the nail on the head. The Compton album was a prime example.

dre sounded awful on compton. all that lyrical miracle shyt does not fit him.

forgot about dre and still d.r.e. are perfect examples of updating dre's flow and lyrical approach without making him sound like a completely different MC.

At this point Dre is taking advice from the wrong people. Bunch of yes men who will tell him anything if it keeps them in the studio working for him and gets them paid. Missionary was disappointing, but Casablanco was a phenomenal project. It just doesn't make a lot of sense. Plus we know Snoop will rap and release any old shyt at this point.

its funny to me that people refuse to accept it that their fav artists do not have at their own incredible past standards anymore

Dre can get in the studio with GOD, still hasnt released a monumental beat in decades

same goes for Preemo Rza Timbaland and almost everybody else outside their prime

Alchemist TO ME doesnt have genre defining work so...

What Pharrell gave the Clipse was def interesting, can respect that

Very curious what Preem can cook for Christmas dinner this year, ive got a nasty appetite...
